If you don\u2019t know the story of Languatron, then my opening analogy will be lost on you. To summarize, Languatron is a lunatic in Chicago who thinks I am Glen A. Larson, the creator of Battlestar Galactica. We have never met, nor shall we ever meet, but he hates me more than life itself.<\/p>\n
To further summarize, Languatron is a big, big fan of Battlestar Galactica, and so am I. Yet Languatron is louder than I am. And dumber than I am. And he opens his big yap every chance he gets to articulate loopy conspiracy theories and hurl insults. It has reached the point, among my tiny, pathetic world of online Battlestar Galactica devotees, that many have come to believe that Languatron represents the entirety of Galactica fandom, and I don\u2019t like that one bit. Languatron does not represent me, nor does he speak for me.<\/p>\n
Utah State Senator Chris Buttars is giving me Languatronic-style hives.<\/p>\n
I\u2019ve beaten up on Chris Buttars in this blog before,<\/a> and I\u2019ve met Senator Buttars on several occasions. I have no desire to pile on, as he\u2019s going through quite the rough patch these past few days, but I feel it necessary to disassociate myself from his imbecility. He\u2019s a Utah Republican; I\u2019m a Utah Republican. That\u2019s where the similarity ends.<\/p>\n He does not speak for me.<\/p>\n If you haven\u2019t followed this story and you\u2019re wondering why he doesn\u2019t speak for me, allow me to give you some of the money quotes:<\/p>\n Speaking of homosexuals, who make him \u201csick,\u201d he said the following: \u201cThey’re mean. They want to talk about being nice. They’re the meanest buggers I have ever seen\u2026 They’re probably the greatest threat to America going down I know of.\u201d<\/p>\n What utter crap.<\/p>\n I\u2019ve been a very vocal proponent of traditional marriage even in the face of accusations that I\u2019m a hate-filled bigot, that, secretly, when I\u2019m alone with my fellow evil Republicans, I say Buttars-like things, and in my heart of hearts, I\u2019m filled with Buttars-like thoughts. Many on the other side of this issue will seize on these kinds of remarks and say, \u201cSee? THIS is who they really are! THIS is what they really believe!\u201d<\/p>\n I want it stated for the record that this is categorically untrue.<\/p>\n I can\u2019t speak for Chris Buttars. I can\u2019t even speak for the Republican Party. I can only speak for me. And from my perspective, we face many grave challenges in this country \u2013 economic, military, and all the rest. Using that hierarchy, the private sexual behavior of consenting adults doesn\u2019t come close to making the list. At all. I’ve spoken to a number of Republicans who have been forced to deal with this firsthand, and, to a person, each of them is equally aghast at Buttars’ remarks. The Legislature has wisely stripped him of some leadership assignments, and they’re trying to figure out what to do next.<\/p>\n Chris Buttars is an embarrassment.
