Caught the 2-hour premiere the past Monday... lookin' for House, MD, actually. I had heard about it a few months back, as a new J.J. Abrams project in the works.

I feel fortunate that I caught it... I liked it!

Admittedly, he hasn't strayed too far from the Fringe 'formula' You've got Sam Neil as a really solid, older actor to be in the supporting cast.. a la Fringe's John Noble. Female lead who has to 'win over' her immediate superior... shades of Fringe's Olivia and Broyles. Bringin' in "Hurley" is SOLELY tossin' a bone to Lost fans-- and he's playing a brilliant- but anti-establishment sort of character... shades of season 1 'Peter' on Fringe. Then, you have the bookish 'doctor' like poor Astrid... much smarter than anyone gives her credit for, cuz she's kinda doing a doormat impression... for a show that is starting out as little more than a cop prodecural with a bit of a paranormal bend... again, season 1 Fringe.

But it's okay... I love Fringe, especially loved season 1, so I'm comin' along for the ride to Alcatraz.

Still, the mystery is intriguing.. There's chemistry between the two "couples" of Rebecca/ 'Doc', and Hauser/ Lucy... just enough humor to keep it from lookin' too full of itself... and just weird enough to keep you interested.

Anybody else liking it?

Oh..... also, quick note: I've caught up on all the past eps of Grimm this season... I've REALLY enjoyed the newer episodes a lot more than the first couple I saw. I've decided it's a keeper!

I'm not won over yet.

I'll watch another episode but the mystery of what happened to the criminals just kinda hangs there like a wet noodle... and I think that bandit criminals that must be captured week after week can't carry the show for long.

Last night's ep, the acting seemed really wooden, dialogue was really amateurish... really has to make some improvements if it's gonna survive.

Haven't watched it, but caught the last 30 minutes of Touch the other night and it has potential.

Having seen the first three hours, and liking it, I have developed a complicated drinking game for the show.

You have to take a drink every time you see the fat guy from Lost.

Is anyone still watching this? I never went back after the first epsiode. How's it fairing?

They are bringing back Punky Brewster to take its place.

I missed MOST of the last couple of weeks, and really can't muster the interest to catch up on what I missed. I've called 'time of death' on it.

You called it, with the comment above. Ultimately, the most intriguing aspect of the show-- they mystery of how these prisoners have vanished & returned--- is all-but-ignored, to focus on two aspects:

1. Flashbacks of their retro-50/60's prison life, and the dirty dealings between the guards, admins, and prisoners.

2. Forgettable chasing & capturing of the prisoner-of-the-week.

..and the producers have just recently announced they are dropping the flashback sequences, due to unpopularity with the viewership -- which, those flashbacks to me seemed more interesting than the fugitive stories because they actually dropped clues to the, ahem, mystery of the show. That guy playing the warden in the 60's has, for me, become the show's breakout-star -- and I suspect he's about to be canned, in favor of trying to make it more of a straight-up cop show.

As it becomes any LESS of an intriguing mystery, it loses anything that makes it unique-- and has lost me as a viewer. Much like the first fans in the early days of GINO, I was watching Alcatraz because it looked like it might be a better show later, as it built up to something good. Sounds like they are moving away from something good, now.

NOW it sounds to me like the producers are starting to pull a 'Heroes, season 2' & fix the show based on viewer complaints. Which is never a good idea.

You know what would fix the show...
