"Raw capitalism is dead." -- Henry Paulson, U.S. Treasury secretary

"Can't we just all go out and say things are OK?" -- President Bush, to congressional leaders during bailout negotiations

I'm not much of an Army Times reader, but after reading that a brigade was shipping from Iraq in October to serve as "an on-call federal response force for natural or manmade emergencies and disasters, including terrorist attacks" in the homeland right before the election, my antennae perked up. Same as they did when I read that an electoral college doomsday scenario exists in which Dick Cheney casts the deciding vote that gives McCain-Palin the White House.

That is, if Cheney and Bush don't take it for themselves. That may sound like fantasy, but don't kill the messenger. They are all strands of the Gordian knot the Bush administration has tied around the neck of the American people for the last two presidential terms, best represented today by the failed bailout of banks, brokers and other complicit parties that have since jacked the American people out of trillions. And while the Army Times revelation or election doomsday may turn out to be paranoia rather than prescience, the evidence just isn't there.

Thoughts?

Hilarious!

Giggling stoners have been predicting that the ebil Republicans will suspend elections since Nixon at least.

Yes, if the E.C. vote were to be tied, Cheney breaks the tie.
It is a little thing called the U.S. Constitution.
Do you have a problem with that?

Democrat policies caused the financial crisis.

The bailout plan will rob "the people" of trillions.

As far as you continue to make good sci-fi movies for me it's fine that US turn to a police state ala Escape from New York.

Of course, you need Lee Van Cleef as Head of the US Police Forces.

A police state is too good for these giggling stoners, and fancy lads in uniform.

Obama will win with a 10% or less margin of victory in the popular vote but a 50-100 point lead in the electoral college. Talk radio will declare the end of Western Civilization, while secretly being glad that they will have a Democrat to pillory for at least four more years.

Republicans can try to look at the good side and look forward to Obama helping them take control of the House, Senate and the Presidency in 2012.

Historically, the economy does better under Dems than Repubs. Also, I really don't see how foreign policy can get worse.

Look forward to at least eight years of Dem White House rule, Lookie.

Good times.

Obama will take the blame for the recession he inherits, Joe Lieberman will switch parties after November and the Dem's will lose one of the houses of congress in 2010. Hillary will challenge Obama in the 2011 primaries, ensuring neither of them wins the White House, and dark horse 3rd party candidate Stephen Colbert will be elected by a slim plurality who thought it would be funny.

Interesting. I agree with you that the Dems will lose at least one of the Houses of Congress in 2010. This will be similar to what happened with Clinton in 94.

I'm not so sure about Hillary challenging Obama, but if he proves to be as unpopular as Carter turned out to be, then that's a possibility.

I doubt a third party candidate will win election as President in 2012.

Well, I guess that's fair since Bush took the blame for the recession he inherited. It all comes around I guess.

No Bush is innocent! He never spoke to the Nation saying that everybody had to have properties, he took EXTREME measures against the financial scandals after the Enron scandal in 2001, that, as we all know, they weren't financing his electorial campaign...etcc...

This never happened! For curiosity, Lester, did you smoke what Darth smokes in this last period?
