Okay, I watched the pilot of this series. My running impressions as I watched it:

Oh, no...it's teen emo angst...the same bleached-out, blue-grey, depressing colour palette...religious terrorists, blegh...YUCK, what an ugly shade of yellow, call the colour police quick...hey, how did "Cheech" from Bullets over Broadway get in here?...This V-club is boring as all get out. The music is bland techno/rock. I've seen better club wear at the local thrift store. Haven't Ron and Dave checked out Second Life?...

More religious stuff...More Mexican/Italian - I mean Tauron - mob stuff...Worldbuilding? What worldbuilding? Caprica City looks like an amalgamation of Times Square/Tokyo/Seattle/Vancouver...They spent how much on the "Pyramid" scenes? (Pyramid is still the card game, Ron. The sports thing was Triad.)...Wow, that Buccaneer logo looks like a 16th century galley....

Blah, blah, the meaning of life. Right and Wrong. (Hey, didn't Ron "shades of grey" Moore co-write this?)...Polytheism doesn't necessarily equate to "anything goes". (See the Ancient Egyptian "Negative Confession".)...

The house-bots look like weebles...Remember weebles? "Weebles wobble but they don't fall down."...EEK!! A naked Cylon Centurion who can't shoot straight! (At least that was funny.)...more mob stuff...I don't believe dear old dad cares about "Zoe"...except as a means to make his Centurion work. Well, at least she's got the attitude for mowing down people....Dude!! Have you ever heard of making a back-up copy?!...It's the Ron Moore supergenius (TM) who makes boneheaded mistakes....

Speaking of Ron Moore trademarks: It's the intercut sex scene. This time with the Minister's murder....Adama is a Tauron name? Oh, look, those awful Tauron's must have programmed the Centurion to end with "By your command."...Maybe "Zoe" successfully downloaded after all and is taking out her anger on some more poor weebles...

"Help, help, Lacy, I'm trapped in the body of a naked robot, bring me something to wear!...No, I'm going to need something bigger than that..."

To sum up:

For all the crap I get for being nostalgic for a 1978 show, at least I know it's nostalgia, a part of my past, and I don't have many illusions about that. To me, Craprica is obsessed with the idea of bringing the past back with the number of times it asks: "If you could bring someone back, would you?"

I find the 1950s American wardrobe to be a hilarious, cheesy distraction, in the trailer. ...not watching it, though.

No, I would say you are obsessed. Not only with that 1978 show, but despite your venom, for the current incarnation. Because though you claim to hate it and those involved with the decisions that make it what it is, you can't stay away.

Surely your own life has more attractive alternatives?

If I hate a show, I realize that and move on.

Btw, I thought I was getting my snacks ready to watch one of my fav shows of all time, THE X-FILES, at 2am and was horrified to see CAPRICA pop up on my tv. I, relunctantly sat through it all. To be honest, the f/x were amazing… the acting was good… the pacing was good for the first 15min, then it got really meandering, soapy and boring. …too much DALLAS and not enough THE SHIELD type drama, the latter, being my fav drama of all time.

…don’t get the terrorism stuff at all and how it fits into the overall story, but it’s early I guess. It’s just hard for me to get into a show, whose overall story (Galactica In Name Only) is known to be one huge, Deus Ex Machina mess, full of plot holes and characters that act wayy out of character, as it unfolds. If they hadn’t injected soapy drama into GINO and SGU, I would have been very open to a science fiction drama, if they had written it as it’s own entity, not attached to any pre-existing franchises. I don’t want my space fantasy/action shows turned into dramas or vice versa.
