Hurricane Katrina may have delivered the worst natural disaster to the shores of the United States in its history. We’ve all seen the pictures of the utter devastation, the houses under water, the dead, the towns and villages in its path reduced to splintered rubble, indeed wiped from the face of the earth. Even the too-recent Indonesian tsunami did not deliver this level of destruction – or this level of human suffering and need.
The people of Louisiana and Mississippi need our help. People are still dying. They need food, shelter, medicine, clothing – and they need hope. It will be weeks, even months before any semblance of normalcy returns to the area. Years, perhaps, before all is made as it was before.
We are proudly joining with these sites and organizations, and individuals in issuing the call to all fans of science fiction to contribute all they can, and contribute it now. We urge you to give to the organization of your choice, specifying “Hurricane Katrina Relief†on your donation. We urge you to check with your employer about matching contributions; many companies will match the charitable contributions of their employees.
