I have little doubt that if I left this only in the other thread, he'd try to downplay it, so I decided to start another new thread just for this:

Quote:
Agent Scooter X,

In keeping with my policy of not getting personal (unlike you who seems to think that every fan of New Battlestar Galactica must endure your condescension and accusations), I will address your little points.

However, I am going to give you a piece of my mind.

All I speak is an opinion, and you feel you have to take me to task for it every time.

Don't you EVER forget that I am a supporter of the original as well as the new show!

Don't you EVER tell me that I pretend that the general public doesn't remember the original show. I never said that, and you well know it!
I KNOW the general public still remembers the original Battlestar Galactica...it's just that now some (perhaps many) in the general public (and NOT by your snide redefinintion of my words) remember it a little less fondly than others. And you cannot pretend that that is not the truth. If you do, then you live in hiding.

I'll tell ya something right now...whenever I enter comic shops, or videostores, or anywhere where the subject of Battlestar Galactica might be conducive to conversation, you wanna know what I've heard, almost everytime whenever I speak with clerks, or heck, even just other people...without fail?
The responses have varied from:

"Battlestar Galactica? Yeah, I love the new show."

"Battlestar Galactica, I like the new show..even better than the original, even though I loved the original."

"I don't know, the original was just so cheesy. It was fun while it lasted, but that's pretty much that."

And some of these folks are guys and gals that are old enough to have seen the original show in first run. So yes, there are people out there (I would say many) who DO have a rather jaded view of the original series as they remember it.

And that's the God's honest truth. And even when they do make less than favorable mention of the original show, I defend it. Perhaps not with the zeal that you think a TOS Galactica fan ought to, but I do defend it...where it does deserve defending. You know perfectly well I love the original show and the new show equivalently, so don't even try to paint me in any other fashion.

And you know what else? These don't trash the fanbase that enjoys the original show. I honestly think that is an aspect that only appears with the cheaply bought courage that comes as a benefit of the anonymity of typing behind a keyboard.

Now, to take to point the things I said:

I said the new Battlestar Galactica is STARTING to get pop culture references. I did NOT say, nor IMPLY that it was becoming overwhelmingly so.

And yes, I'll stand by my statement that the new Battlestar Galactica IS what is going to be on the forefront of many people's minds. That's my opinion. No more factual than your opinions.

The new BATTLESTAR GALACTICA is also only just starting on its merchandising as well...but there are soundtracks, t-shirts (granted only one that I saw, and it only sported the new series logo), toys from Hasbro's Titanium Series (Galactica, Viper, and Cylon Raider), a larger TNS Galactica I believe is planned by Art Asylum (but don't hold me to that),the novel Battlestar Galactica 2: The Cylon Secret, there is a comic book series in the works from Dynamite Comics, a 12 inch New Battlestar Galactica Centurion is apparently in the works.

Like I said, just starting. I don't know where you get the idea that there IS no New Battlestar Galactica merchandise.

Now, you want to class me as a traitor to the original show with your snide little "Surprising- Sire Uri" statement after I said "the only reason I would pick the new show over the original". You don't know me at all. Then you want to tell me that I DO want to see the new show put a stopper on a continuation?! You know what, I don't HAVE to justify my support of the original show to you, or to anyone! Who the hell are you to judge me anyway?

Your statement that the new show is GINO is just as much an opinion as mine that the original series is STILL worth watching. Just opinions. GINO is an abbreviated opinion. Not fact. I repeat...not fact. And yes, many people do use it in a very self-comforting, cathartic way.

Why do you feel the need to speak to pretty much any supporter of the new show as if he/she were an idiot? I do NOT make idiotic statements, and I sure as hell am NO IDIOT...so why are you talking to me that way? What do you think gives you the right to speak to me in that manner? You certainly are no judge of me, nor I of you.

I am defending the new show Battlestar Galactica. Did I say ANYTHING at all about defending those behind its production? No, you said that. Stop trying to pigeonhole me...cause it's really gotten long since old. As I said, I don't have to justify my support of either show to you....or to anyone else for that matter.

And yes, I do have occasional correspondence with Ronald D. Moore and his wife, and I find both of them to be very nice people.

What I see in the show is a darker, more realistic take on the brothers of man led by the last surviving battlestar (well, in this case, last TWO surviving battlestars)in their flight across the universe to the legendary planet known as Earth, to avoid destruction or enslavement at the hands of a machine enemy called The Cylons. SO what if everyone is not touchy feely, happy go lucky, all-noble, black and white cut and dry folk? Hate to say it, but welcome to the human race, pal.

I love the original Battlestar Galactica because it is a more optimistic view of mankind's flight amongst the stars.

I love the new Battlestar Galactica because it is a darker (more properly so) take on the premise of mankind's near extinction, and exodus across the stars.

It's about as simple as that.

They both have the same premise, with different approaches. To me, they are both Battlestar Galactica.

I welcome the continuation of EITHER show. Don't you dare tell me that I am against the original series' continuation. Don't you DARE tell ME that I DON'T want the orignal series continued.

If that were the case, I (and many others whom you arrogantly, and quite mistakenly presume would feel the way I do) would not be writing fan-fiction based on the original series to satisfy ours, and others' desires to see some form of continuation.

I speak from a pragmatic viewpoint. That is all....and that is something that a supporter of both shows can afford.

I have said it once, and I'll say it again. If the orignal series is continued in some way, shape, or form, then great. The Lords of Kobol have truly blessed us. If not, well...too bad, so sad. And that's PRECISELY the way I feel about the new show as well.

Now, as regards what Ron Moore and David Eick say about TOS fans, well, I don't really let that bother me now do I? Even as a supporter of the original show. Gee I wonder why that is? Could it be because I am more interested in the show itself, than their views on its fans? I just watch the show. I am far more offended by people like you who think they can paint me as someone who doesn't want a continuation of TOS, than I am by a few words by RDM and DE as regards TOS fans.

And you are going to sit there and tell me that anyone who trashes the orignal show is a Ron Moore sycophant? You think that ANYONE who enjoys the new BATTLESTAR GALACTICA is a Ron Moore sycophant? Is that how narrow your view of people in general is? They can't possibly enjoy the new show on its own merits?

Is that it? If you love the original series, yet you also love the new BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, then you are a traitor to the (perceived) cause? You are no longer a TOS fan/supporter? Is that how myopic the view of the general TOS fan is, since you seem to presume to speak for all of TOS fandom?

I know I speak only for myself.

Pretty much everyone else here knows that I am also a supporter of the original series, and a possible continuation. I don't see why you can't accept that, and accuse me of not wanting to see a continuation based on TOS. With snottish attitudes like yours, ASX, it is enough to make me say that we don't DESERVE a TOS continuation.

Galactica Is Nicely Overhauled. There. GINO! (and just my very humble opinion)

Respectfully,
Martok2112

That's the name of a really good band. One of my absolute faves --different.. really mellow. Public Radio mellow.

They have been called 'Americana' but that doesn't really cover it. Wilco they ain't. Their own term for their sound is, "countrypolitan".

Their first album "Rabbit songs" was really good-- second album, "Eveningland"? Ehhh-- a few good songs, but it was WAYYY too 'mellow gold 1970's am radio' for me.

Haven't got the third album yet--'Funnel Cloud' but from the little I have heard, it sounds better than Eveningland.

So what ? It looks like the Kool-aid drinking, remake craving MarKook had a public meltdown about something I might have said about him.

But wait...... there's no link so based on your logic, this must be fake.

Actually, there is a link. However the board no longer exists. But, when it was first posted, people had plenty of opportunity to examine it to see if it was fake.

No by your own rules and logic, you called both me and Neuro LIARS for quoting something or someone without either providing a link OR an active link so therefore you (by your own rules) are a liar for quoting MarKook without providing an active link.

I provided an active link at the time. I'm reasonably certain it was active after the fact for several months. It was my responsibility to provide one when quoting, not indefinately.

Do you have an active link now to prove that you provided an active link back then, at the time you were quoting Markook?

If not, then by your own rules, you are a liar.

I made the effort. You did not. I still have no idea why I'm wasting the effort typing this, when we both know damned well your trolling. Honestly, I think I'm just OCD like that...
